I absolutely love the site but I'm wondering if you just want to provide high quality videos of themes or if the site should serve as the 1-stop shop for all anime theme related information and discussions. Issue #233 and #232 are going into this direction but there are a lot of things to consider which is why I'm creating a separate issue.

Here is my little story:

When a new season begins I look at all most shows on LifeChart and/or anidb, go to the best music database for games and animes, VGMdb, and find out what albums the animes are featuring. Next begins the slow process of finding every song and creating a seasonal Spotify playlist (eg: playlist of the current season). VGMdb is often not a good source when it comes to links so I often find myself looking at MusicBrainz as my secondary source of choice. Some songs and albums turn out to be absolute bangers and since I'm a young audiophile, I of course start looking for CDs. This is the next problem that requires more researching than I like because I can't just go to my regional Amazon page (Germany), type in "SYMPHONIA/知りたいこと、知りたくないこと / 中島美嘉" and expect to get a hit. I often end up at Amazon Japan, swap the .co.jp to .de and hope the item exists. CDJapan is also an option but shipping costs are no joke.

Going back to this issue: should this site be a 1-stop shop for all information about anime themes that I required in my little story? This includes the following:

  • Album information (can be sourced from VGMdb and MusicBrainz)
  • Streaming Links (related to Links to streaming #233 and can also be sourced if album information from the sources above exists)
  • Playlists on Spotify and/or similar sites containing everything of the season (don't know if this can be automated and doing it by hand is not fun)
  • Links to stores like Amazon (JP and maybe other regions), CDJapan and maybe others (can also be sourced)

The site already contains the information about the Animes, which season they air, what themes they have, the song name, the artist but the missing piece is the most complicated: the albums. Let's take STORYSEEKER by STEREO DIVE FOUNDATION as an example:

On Spotify you can find this song in the Single STORYSEEKER which is actually the artist edition LACM-24081 as seen on VGMdb and CDJapan but Discogs only has "Stereo Dive Foundation – Storyseeker" while over at MusicBrainz there is a distinction between STORYSEEKER (song) and STORYSEEKER (maxi single) with different versions for CD and Streaming but this is still not complete since I actually bought LACM-24082 which is called "STORYSEEKER / STEREO DIVE FOUNDATION [Anime Edition]" on VGMdb and CDJapan and is only available on CD but this is still not the end since both Artist and Anime Editions are available on Amazon Japan (Artist Edition, Anime Edition) but there is also the super limited Amazon.co.jp Edition that comes with a CD Jacket???

The last edition is a joke but I hope you can see how much fuckery is going on when it comes to music metadata. This doesn't even contain different releases across labels and regions that you often see with western CDs. The point I'm making is that there is not single source of truth and if the site were to add some of the information listed above, you have to make a very educated decision on how and where to source your information. This is especially tricky since your base is are TV Sized versions of OPs/EDs and not entire albums.

This is more of a discussion issue than it is a feature request and I hope the site continues to evolve. Music in Animes is often front and center with OPs/EDs being the most notable, something that western shows can never achieve so having a goto site dedicate to the music is very useful.
