Feature Request: Jetpack Search Add-On Receipts Refer to Items Instead of Records #55832
Comments
Looks like this appeared as a side effect of #50028 (it's the default fallback text added there). Possibly we should just remove that fallback behavior; I'm not sure "Purchase of 129 search records" is going to make any more sense than "Purchase of 129 items" (people don't purchase search records -- they purchase for a particular tier). Also if this were going to be enabled for Jetpack Search, it would be best to add something to the email receipts too, not just Calypso. |
The tier is determined by the number of records the user's site has, they don't have the ability to choose. The tier can also fluctuate if the user's record count increases or decreases. @DavidRothstein could the messaging be updated to something like: Tier: Up to 999 records; currently using X records.
Per the Search Product Pricing page, there is a separate email that goes out to address any tier movement: A few weeks before your next billing cycle you will get an email informing you that you are over your limit and telling you what you will be charged when you auto-renew. This gives you time to reduce the number of records or just let the auto-renewal take place. |
@bluefuton: we wanted to put this on your radar. We might remove the "{quantity} items" fallback, but it's low priority in our backlog. If y'all want to implement a search-specific label, like Titan's "{quantity} new mailboxes", it'd probably be a nice improvement for our users. |
This is a historical receipt, so we wouldn't show the current records there. (Possibly could show them on the purchase page via #55090 though.) My thought above was that the "Tier: Up to 999 records" part would probably be enough, and that showing the exact number of search records associated with the historical payment would only be marginally useful (although I guess it might be useful if they wanted to know exactly how close they were to one of the tier boundaries at the time they paid).
Yes, we added that text to the pre-renewal emails at the time Jetpack Search was launched. Here I'm talking about the receipt emails though (i.e. the equivalent of the receipts in Calypso), to be able to see the tier that was used to determine the price for each purchase or renewal after the payment is processed. -- In any case, as noted above our own involvement here would probably have to be limited to just removing the bad text that's currently there in Calypso. |
The issue has been addressed with the changes implemented in #97803 and 169345-ghe-Automattic/wpcom. |

What
Please update the Billing History and receipts to use the term "records" in Jetpack Search receipts instead of "items."
Why
Jetpack Search's pricing structure refers to "records" and not "items." This is confusing for users who are trying to determine by what scale they are being billed.
See 4254028-zen for reference.
