We should document the actual process to create a release and get it pushed to pypi.
This is currently not fully automated or documented, as far as i can see.

We can probably use a GitHub Action to upload to PyPi on protected tag push?

That might be an option, yes. https://github.com/marketplace/actions/pypi-publish might be one option, but i do not have any experience with it.
https://packaging.python.org/en/latest/guides/publishing-package-distribution-releases-using-github-actions-ci-cd-workflows/ has documentation that might be useful.
