While I tried to roughly fix the Vanilla/CE shell and effect issue, it totally failed. Crashed on load, even after separating the mod and manually sorting for overwrite priority. To solve just this issue, I paired the equivalent files from SCGF's Tear, Knockout, and Mustard Gas shells - I wasn't able to. The base file is found at:
Rimworld/Mods/CombatExtended/Patches/Gas Traps and Shells/Patch_81mm.xml

NachoToast made the mod with vanilla in mind, and I've been trying to find where things go wrong in CE. It works just fine if you can make the gas exist, but firing any shells will not work. I started small, hoping for an item value change just to load the shells inside a CE mortar, to no luck.
I'm looking for anyone else who wants to see Combat Extended with realistic chemical warfare. It's a big task, but not impossible; gas hediffs are patched to protect based on exposure for a number of mods already. Specifically, if you know how CE deals with new types of artillery/mortar/etc. shells with gas effects, please check how this can be done efficiently.
I see some promise in using black smoke or tox/smoke effects for the gas itself, but need help in making a Vanilla mod into a patch for CE.
