I sadly currently do not have time to work on such a niche feature that only is used in mineshafts IIRC, but if someone wants to contribute: sure!

I have once again decided that loot minecarts are silly

They can be silly, but they are a big part of loot system in Minecraft. A lot of mineshafts exist underground, they are much more common than any other dungeon or structure, and there are a lot of mods (like YUNG's), that expand them even more.
Thus, we miss out a big portion of loot containers. I like this mod and its features, but because of missing minecarts I have to choose Lootr, even though I would really like to use LootCrates instead.

And I do believe this logic is common among other admins and modpack creators.

Actually, yes. I've gotten that question a few times now. I won't promise a time frame, but it certainly does not hurt
