I’ve thought about the functionality of the Record Button for awhile now. I think it would work better if the Record Button wasn’t just an “on/off button” but a “latch button” The new functionality would serve three purposes:
When you press it, it would depress (latch inward) and stay depressed. At this point it would not start recording until you hit the play button in the host (Reaper). When the host stops playing the track the record button would unlatch outward (stop recording inside the plugin and turn off).
If you are done reviewing the imported audio and setting the parameters of the plugin then when the Record button is in the unlatched position it acts like a normal plugin and always shoots the midi output of the plugin to the current track. You could use a instrument seting behind this plugin to review the audio inside the plugin and also to have the ability to route it to a empty midi track below the current track inside the DAW when the play button is hit. Rerouting the midi to another track to record it in Reaper is fairly easy. This would complete the process of recording sound into the plugin, refining it then have the parameters be set in the right position to record output back into the DAW.
The record button would also post a parameter in the plugins parameter list so I could activate it from the host (Reaper).
