When you click on email buttons they don't fill out the email in there. Could we get one either [email protected] or [email protected] in there for now?

Hmm, when I click the email icon the recipient email address is filled in for me...see screenshot:

For this problem:

  • What device, operating system and browser are you using? Have you tried any others?
  • Do you have a default email client set on that device? Do mailto: links behave properly for you on other websites?

I can't find much help via google. I think I'm going to have to ask someone for help with this one! If you come across any potential hints then do please post them in this thread.

It's my bad for not knowing this before...still so much for me to learn.

So: as per my whatsapp update previously, I have found out about this from friends who do web for a living, and...: Autofilling in mailto: links simply does not work on iphones and will never be added back, and cannot be guaranteed at all for other platforms. It's similar to autoplaying videos and gifs and so on: the trend is away from doing these things, so they're already too outdated for us to rely on.

I recommend that we use a contact form instead of a mailto: link. You could make your own google form for this, and I could then link to it from the mail icon perhaps?

Quick sense check here from the wonderful and much-abused....

Accio @doismellburning and @jnic!

Can you give opinion on this thread? As well as what we should do instead? Otherwise I will pop the most simple ever contact form there instead...

What does "fill out the email in there" mean? What exactly is the expectation here?

I see a bunch of <a href="mailto:[email protected]"> links (1 and 2), and they all result in my email client starting a mail to [email protected] when I follow them (whether Safari on iOS 12 or Firefox on Mojave) and this is exactly what I expect to happen

Autofilling in mailto: links simply does not work on iphones

What does "autofilling" mean here? Because if you mean the behaviour I describe above, that would surprise me immensely!

@DPatient Are you still having this issue D? If so, could you explain a bit more about what you mean?

Can I check please @doismellburning: using your iPhone, when you click the envelope icon on http://toomuchofaperson.com your email app opens and the "to" field already has "[email protected]" in it ???
