UX: Add citation question to FAQ #477
Comments
Updated with Arthur's suggestions: Digital WPI’s citation generator is meant to serve as a guide for users. Like other citation applications, it does not always include information required by specific style guides. Three citation styles are offered in our repository: APA, Chicago, and MLA. We recommend users check the generated citation and if any information is missing, reference the available metadata in the item record to complete the citation. |
Updated the answer and added to the "Hyrax Help and About Page Update 1/2024" doc, https://wpi0.sharepoint.com/:w:/s/gr-hyrax-wg/EW8baqAEqxtEtsPiEseLSusBork0MPy6Dij6V3UGMJmU7A?e=0k6U6h. This will be discussed in the meeting on 1/11 with the Hyrax WG. Are citations generated by Digital WPI accurate? Three citation styles are available in the repository: APA, Chicago, and MLA. The citation generator in Digital WPI is meant to serve as a guide for users. The information for the citation is pulled automatically from the metadata in the repository record; however, because this process is automated, the citation could still contain errors. We recommend that users check the style format of the generated citation and if any information is missing, reference the metadata available in the record to correct or complete the citation. |

Question: Are citations generated by Digital WPI accurate?
The citation generator in Digital WPI is meant to serve as a guide for users, but similar to other citation applications, it does not always include all of the information required by the citation style format. Three citation styles are available in our repository: APA, Chicago, and MLA. We recommend that our users check the style format when generating the citation and if any information is missing, reference the metadata available in the record to correct or complete the citation.
