Noticed this when I connected a gyrotron to the large transceiver dish.
The gyrotron has a mass of 7 tons
connect a large transceiver dish and the gyrotron now weighs 25 tons
connect a medium dish and the gyrotron changed to 5 tons
connect the multi-bandwidth shielded transceiver, the gyrotron is now 2.5 tons
the same thing happens with with the other beam producers except...
...DT-1-IR-L affects the mass of the free electron laser and diode laser array, but not gyrotron

It seems like this might be intentional, but it's not explained anywhere.
Why do beam producers/generators have their stated mass until they are connected to something that they work with?

This is a feature, not a bug. The general idea is that the beam generator mass scales with the maximum power output of the transmitter, that way they total system is balanced when connecting to weaker transmitters.
