I have been doing some research on stuff for my modpack hypixel skyblock 7. However I have decided to share the research in case someone is interested in adding them to core gregtech.

Oil Processing Overhaul

Details

In my opinion oil processing in greg tech has a lot of room for improvement. This has already been suggested to Tech22 but I decided I will post it here as well. Oil processing in real life is much more complicated but also rewarding than what is currently in greg tech. The exact amounts of stuff that will be produced are not decided yet because I am not exactly a balancing expert. Some of the items and machines described here are not in the game yet.

Products

Hydrocarbons (Propane, ethylene, benzene, etc.) Such as the ones you get from steam-cracking light fuel and distilling it with the current gregtech recipes

Sulfur (From hydrogen sulfide)
Coke
Diesel
Kerosene

Steps

Steps here are copied from wikipedia

Desalter unit uses water to wash out salt from the crude oil before it is distilled.

Distillation tower turns desalted crude oil into -> Refinery Gas, Sulfuric Naphtha, Sulfuric Kerosene, Sulfuric Diesel, Refinery Residue (The amounts given will depend on whether you are using light crude oil, medium crude oil, and heavy crude oil)

Vacuum Distillation Tower turns refinery residue (liquid) into Vacuum Residue and Bitumen

Bitumen can be recycled by mixing it with naphtha to make heavy oil

Coker turns Vacuum Residue into Coke, Refinery Gas, Naphtha, and Sulfuric Gas

Sulfuric Diesel and Sulfuric Naphtha are treated with hydrogen to make Diesel and Naphtha respectively, while giving hydrogen sulfide which is used to make sulfur/sulfuric acid

Sulfuric Kerosene is treated with Sodium Hydroxide in a Merox treater to give kerosene

Processing refinery gas will be the same as it is currently (Treated with hydrogen and cracked with steam or hydrogen), however putting steam-cracked refinery gas in a distillation tower will produce the same things as the current steam-cracked light fuel distillation tower recipe.

Naphtha can no longer be distilled, it will be processed with a catalytic reformer

These steps are an oversimplified version of this diagram here because my understanding of petrochemistry is limited. A more complete realistic process will be found in the Sources area at the bottom.

Natural Gas Processing

Similarly, natural gas processing in real life is more rewarding but also complicated than what is currently in greg tech. I haven't had much time to research it but here are some diagrams and links.

i think you could do half the steps in this chain with chemical reactors, i don't think we need to add more machines at MV

I guess we could pseudo-split the line into oil processing and adv oil proc similarly of how plat line was treated in gcyL where just platinum was way easier to get (max 10 machines if you want to passive it fully) but to get rhodium rhenium etc takes 50+ machines
