Fun fact, I did the website design in a day or 2 while working on Dead Cells. If I remember correctly, the website uses some proprietary template technology from the old days of Motion Twin web games, so it's quite complex to author. It's not like you have some back office to edit pages 😁 Unfortunately, I don't have any free time to work on that for now, and my plan is to work on supporting my GameBase to be a possible missing "first contact" between users and Heaps. I actually even have reserved a domain for this one: https://gameba.se |
oh my lord! i’ve been on the forums crying a long thread about that missing link, and really a journey of trying to understand how to actually use Heaps, lol. That is major news!! And with that game-base/tutorial, i wouldn’t even be here in the first place! Instead, i would say, Heaps is indeed beginner-friendly, modular, great, blah blah blah, just as the advertisement states! lol. 😁
😮, that really is how it usually happens tho.. LOL at the web-site design. I actually looked at it to update the samples page, and i was impressed at how much work went into the thing!! I think i was able to build the documentation site, but maybe ran out of energy once i got to building the samples site. 😦 so yeah, focus on the game-base is enough! ❤️ Future new users will be eternally grateful. I know they will be. ...it can’t be too hard to stick in some text into the home-page though, can it? |
moving issue from heaps repo:
HeapsIO/heaps#1050
basically: convey what heaps really is a bit more concretely, honestly, with some more written information, particularly on the home-page, as that’s the first place people should land.
at the moment, the web-page feels like it’s advertising some vague product meant for the masses. Maybe need to find some way to convey: it’s just a tool used by a few professionals, whom were/are kind enough to share it with the world ❤️, but, that doesn’t mean there will be any hand-holding (lol), or much support for specific target platforms. The target audience should be for rather good programmers not afraid to get dirty and DIY stuff, not your typical Flash kid (like me! 😁) ..you get the point..
i’m personally rather new to Heaps, so, hopefully someone with more experience can chime in..
