Create a section for published paper and a section for working paper

Dear all, I was working on this idea for the whole morning and cannot figure this out. I have created two folders in the content folder, namely publication and workingpaper to separately store published papers and working papers. Correspondingly, two md files have also been created in the content\home\ folder, namely publications.md and workingpaper.md. Necesseary adjustments have been made in the menus.toml.

However, the working papers just refused to display on the website. Instead, it displayed the published papers. Below is an example of the workingpaper.md.

I also tried to change the page_type = 'publication' to page_type = 'workingpaper' in the workingpaper.md file. This time the website is able to display the content in the workingpaper folder however the display was not in publication type (i.e. it was displayed in a post type).

Any ideas?

Hugo looks for a folder, with the name defined by page_type, under /wowchemy/layouts/. If it can't find one, it will fall back to the default, /wowchemy/layouts/_default. This happens to be the post layout for wowchemy.

You can add a workingpaper folder to your local repo under ./layouts/ and copy the layout file from the publication folder: https://github.com/wowchemy/wowchemy-hugo-modules/tree/main/wowchemy/layouts/publication.

I just tried that. No errors were returned this time. However, on the website, working papers were displayed as post NOT publications. Any ideas?

Okay! It turns out publications are a bit different than the rest. So you have to do it another way, which in the end is also a lot easier:)

1. Remove the newly created folder workingpapers under ./layouts/.
2. In ./content/home/workingpaper.md set the page_type back to publication. And set content.filter.publication_type = "3".
3. In ./content/home/publication.md set content.filter.publication_type = "2".
4. Collect all your publications in ./content/publication/
5. Set publication_types = 3 for the papers you want to display under working papers, leave the rest as publication_types = 2.
