Hello,
Strangely, service discovery is not showing Transwhat. How can I make sure it is launched and active please?
I updated the sources to 2.5 in my fork but no success

Sorry, this app might be broken because actually they are to many problem with yowsup about this issue : tgalal/yowsup#1256 (comment)
Maybe I'll move to telegram and create an create an app for this. But about this app I won't support more longer because now I'm definitely blocked by whatsapp and all unofficial whatsapp client have I lot of problem now.

About your problem it might be transwhat or spectrum how crash. You need to see what happen in syslog or in : /var/log/spectrum2/transwhat.domain.tld/backends/backend.log

You can also check the status of the service with : service transwhat status
