I am not sure how we treat cropping for DNG

In short - the poster wants us to really crop the image and not only use a crop meta data.

Is this what we do?

Currently, the entire image is included in DNG and metadata is supplied
for cropping. It would of course be possible to do actual cropping
instead.

The question is, how much should we care about working around bugs in
various DNG processing software?

That was my guess

That is a good question. There are some tools that it seems that several
potential "customers" like to use that implement DNG poorly.

Maybe the tools are buggy or simply implements a too old version.

As far as I understand, it is not only about cropping. Also the spatial
gain is using a new feature. Maybe also more.

Ah! I do not remember this one!

One thing though. It seems like we set the cropping rectangle in meta data even if we have set the -no-crop switch, This is kind of wrong. At least it prevented me from using DNG for finding the positions of the AF dots for sd Quattro H.
