Issue to document the institutional design development

This was the latest version for the institutional page:

following steps are:

  • how to edit the page, I have one draft here
  • how to add members or how institutions are organized in general: does one own a institution and can add members? Or can multiple persons own one institution? (see draft for adding members for example)
  • how to build an institutional page? do you have a private profile first and from there a user can build an institutional page? or is it a decision at the registration process? (see suggestion for profile page settings)

Collection management

I looked into how other platforms like Sketchfab, Pinterest or instagram manage their collections. There collections is always a separated part from the individual objects. In Sketchfab the division looks like that:
Bildschirmfoto 2024-10-15 um 12 21 48

In pinterest it is separated in "Erstellt" - Created content and "Gemerkt" - Content that you added to one of your collections.

I think it makes sense to also separate the collections in the profile/Institution page and then the filter options on the side change. I think in the explore page, it can stay as it is.
We could use the following division:
My objects - Objects uploaded by the user
My collections - Collections created by the user
Subscribed collections - Collections the user subscribed to/ is following
Liked objects- Objects that are liked by the user

What do you think about it? Do you have more ideas or suggestions?

Since the participants from the workshop mentioned that the filter options for objects/collections are a bit too abstract, here again the idea to switch between different tabs like suggested above.
We can still change the subscribed collections/Liked objects if we don't want to use this feature.
What do you think?

Improvement for the settings form

This is the newest version of the formular to create an institutional page:

  • we call it "page name" since there can also be project pages created
  • In Category there can be chosen between museum, research institute, university, library, funded project, project, other
  • if user chooses it's a project -> new field for adding the organisation/institution, Link or only text field. Smart search for existing institutional pages. (I am not sure about this point yet. The field for adding the organization/institution is for linking an organization to a project, right? the user can only type in the name of an organization or add a link or link an existing institutional page. This is not finished design/text wise, but just for functionality, is this going in to the direction we want?

  • first two fields are mandatory, the rest is optional
  • Collaborators don't get specific roles

institutional page perspective, user, not member

filter options, search bar, tabs
This is the perspective for an institutional/project page:

  • since we got rid of most of the filter options, we only have the filter for media types left right now.
  • the search bar can go more on top to the tabs section

display members/collaborators

  • we can display members/collaborators in a new tab or below the profile picture, since we don't have the feature to follow institutions yet.
Bildschirmfoto 2024-12-12 um 12 34 26

I prefer the second option, because the members are not similar to objects and collections, it's another category. and if it is a new tab, there is a lot of space on the page, only for the list of names.
The user could be able to click on the number of members below the profile picture and get a new smaller window to see all the collaborators:

institutional page perspective, user as member and rights to edit

user is able to edit the page and members

  • if the user is a member of the organization, there is an edit button.
  • when the user clicks on "edit profile", the fields become editable textfields again. I don't like the idea to add "edit" next to every field like in wikibase.
  • and if the user clicks on the members, he can also edit them here.
Bildschirmfoto 2024-12-12 um 12 48 59 Bildschirmfoto 2024-12-12 um 12 49 08
  • I think I also still like the option to get back to the settings menu and get the same form like when creating the page.
  • Here could also be the possibility to view the members and edit them and we could add more settings in the future if we need more.
  • This is the settings menu from the institutional/project page:
Bildschirmfoto 2024-12-12 um 12 59 28
  • If it is integrated in the profile page for example, here could be the place to edit username/password as well.
  • This is the idea for the place where to create an institutional page right now and if the user can edit their profile here, it makes sense, that the project/institutional profile is editable in the same way.
  • This is the settings menu from a personal profile:
