Infusion for Golden Oak Sapling Not Working

When I do the infusion for the Golden Oak Sapling, all it does is produce a random instability effect as if I'm not doing the infusion properly. However, I have all of the necessary essentia and materials. Is there something I'm doing wrong in terms of the placement of the items or the way my alter is configured, or is this an actual bug? Let me know if you want a screenshot or a gif to better explain the symptoms.
