We will eventually need to consider support for rr.
Note that this requires support for performance counters in the detected processor. For VMs, I think DigitalOcean, VMware and c5.9xlarge or higher EC2 instances have this support.
Moreover, rr now has useful features, e.g. rr pack for trace portability.
Apparently ffpuppet have some sort of support as well, but I haven't explored it fully yet...
