Takes a few minutes to start playing

I've tried delay set to either 0 or 3s but no matter what, it never starts playing on boot. If I leave the Pi unattended a minute or two, it starts, also if I start a game then exit, but it won't start playing immediately on boot.

Same problem for me, after several settings I realized that the issue starts when I update the underlying OS.
If you update everything else but the OS, it works.
I'm using RPi400 with Retropie 4.7.1.
