Hi, I am a new student to Beamdyn and I have some questions about with Beamdyn module. Can I use the new version of the code directly? And I guess if I open it in VS2017 it should require some configuration or settings? So where can I find a clear and intuitive tutorial to use it please. Thank you.

Dear @chenyw-299,

I'm not sure what you mean be "new version", but when using BeamDyn, I would recommend using OpenFAST v3.5.3 (https://github.com/OpenFAST/openfast/releases/tag/v3.5.3) or newer.

The much faster version of BeamDyn, made faster through the use of the new tight coupling implementation in the OpenFAST glue code, will be available in the upcoming release of OpenFAST v5.0. You can track the progress here: #2439.

Dear @jjonkman,

Do you have an updated schedule for v5.0? Since it was mentioned that v5.0 would be released in this fall as I recall.

Kind regards

Dear @yangpy88,

The release of OpenFAST v4.0 is expected very soon, which will be followed shortly by the release of OpenFAST v5.0, hopefully within the next month.

Best regards,

Dear @jjonkman ,

That sounds really good! Thank you. BTW, is the paper of the tight coupling algorithm available online?

Kind regards,

Dear @yangpy88,

While we have drafted this paper, we are awaiting the final results from our tight coupling implementation before we submit it to the Wind Energy Science journal–hopefully that is within the next month.

Best regards,
