The problem

Transport has a direct impact on social equity, economic strength of geographic regions and is a world problem considering environmental sustainability that needs to be fixed. Yet the huge potential that transport data can bring to the table has not yet been unleashed.

*potential: Just imagine the added value for venues if they can add real-time transport data to their services, or even better, imagine an intermodal route planner in which every small detail on the road is taken into account to serve you a seamless experience for that precise moment.

Suggested solution

Everyone* opens up their data which they use to inform their customers without exception.

*everyone: parking lots, railway companies, traffic control agencies, bus companies, hiking route maintainers, and so on.

What's next in 2013/2014?

• Workshop at OKCon in which will identify extra problems and their suggested solutions (Call for Proposals)
• Creating a common vocabulary for transport data
• Creating a common knowledge base, using the vocabulary, for stop_areas and stop_points and how they relate to each other
• An Open Transport Data Portal on which all data relevant to transport is gathered: http://transport.datahub.io
