The firmware installer extracts only the /dev_flash packages but PS3UPDAT.PUP contains lots of other kernel files such as CORE_OS_PAKCAGE.PKG which contains LV2 and LV1 executables.

Steps:

  • Implement initial extraction of PUP contents.
  • Implement standalone TAR extraction.
  • Implement extraction of the unique PKG files inside the PUP file.
