About This Release

This is the second update for September 2022, for the Stardew Valley Mod Manager. This update contains the usual bug fixes as well as a brand new repair mode and a voluntary telemetry data collection program. Please read more about this below before coming to a conclusion as we are making it our goal to be as transparent as humanly possible regarding telemetry, data collection, all of the different anonymous data we are collecting and how it is used.

Application Repair Mode

This update brings a brand new repair mode to the application. From the control panel or settings application, simply click "Change/Modify" or "Repair" depending on your OS version to launch the repair application. This application can locate and fix issues without needing to fully reset the application or re-install it, but also offers a route to factory restore the application.

Telemetry

This update also brings a new voluntary telemetry program. By joining, you'll be helping us better develop Stardew Valley Mod Manager by sending us helpful anonymous statistics and information such as how many times you've performed an operation, how many mods you have enabled, installed, etc. and what colour theme you're using.

We value this information as it can give us a really good perspective on what features are important to our users, better shaping our understanding of how users actually use the application, versus how the application was designed and intended to be used.

Your data & Privacy

We're aiming to be as transparent as possible when it comes to data collection, which is why when you launch Stardew Valley Mod Manager for the first time in an update with telemetry, you'll be asked whether you want to opt-in as well as an example of the data that will be collected so you can see for yourself and make an informed decision.

We've also constructed a Telemetry Policy that goes into great detail about the telemetry system that we encourage you to read. This is accessible also via the Telemetry screen and from the settings menu.

We also do not share any telemetry data with third parties or anyone else. This is for use by RWE Labs only.

Joining or Leaving the Program

When you first launch the application after updating to a version that contains the telemetry program, you'll be met with a new window that explains the program and shows you an example of telemetric data. From here you can make a decision to opt in or out or simply close the window - to decide later. This will retain you as not opted-in but will prompt you every time you open until you make a decision.

To opt-in or opt-out at any time, simply go to Settings > Scroll to Telemetry > click "Opt-Out" or "Opt-In" depending on your program status. This will present you with the same window aforementioned, where you can make an informed decision about the telemetry program, including reading the policy and example.

FAQ

I'm not enrolled in the telemetry program, but there's still a telemetry file on my computer!
The telemetric data is recorded by the application regardless of whether you are opted in or out of the program. The data remains solely on your system and is not shared with RWE Labs however, unless you are enrolled in the program.

How often is my data shared with RWE Labs?
Telemetric data is shared occasionally with RWE Labs but only when the application is opened by the user. If the user does not open the application for 6 months, no telemetric data will be shared during this period. Users that use Stardew Valley Mod Manager more often will have their telemetric data shared with RWE Labs more frequently.

Can I view my telemetric data?
Telemetric data can be viewed and even edited on the local machine by going to the following file location:

%appdata%\RWE Labs\SDV Mod Manager\telemetry.json

However modified telemetric data will be flagged in our system and will not be used, so if you're truly interested in helping us out, please do not edit the data in this file. Viewing it however is encouraged if you are interested and want to understand the telemetric data system.

How is my data shared with RWE Labs?
Telemetric data is shared using File Transfer Protocol (FTP) to a web server, where it is processed and either deleted (if modified manually) or sorted (if the data has not been edited) and transformed into visualisations that can be more easily understood by RWE Labs. This happens seamlessly while you use the application and requires an internet connection. On average, the upload of telemetric data should only take a few moments and should not have any meaningful impact on your data plan if you are on a metered connection.

This update implements some performance improvements and minor bug fixes to polish off the user experience and make the application more pleasant to use. We've also made some efforts to make the application easier to install by digitally signing the application with a code signing certificate.

Code Signed Application

• The Stardew Valley Mod Manager installer will now show "RWE Labs" as the verified publisher, with a less scare inducing title and wording to the user account control window.
• When launching the Stardew Valley Modpack Generator (sdvmpgen.exe) from the installation directory, it will now show "RWE Labs" as the verified publisher, along with the same less scare inducing title and wording to the user account control window.

Changes and Bug Fixes

• #63 - Anti-virus programs should now report a higher trust level, since all application executables including the installer are now code signed.
• Minor bug fixes pertaining to file reading and writing.
• Performance improvements.

Overview

This update implements some quality of life features and bug fixes, including some updates to the Stardew Valley Modpack Generator utility that can be accessed from the installation directory.

New Features

Modpack Installer and Modpack Generator

• The Modpack Installer now shows the currently installed SMAPI version number when installing a modpack.
• In addition, the Modpack Installer now shows the version of SMAPI that the modpack is designed for ¹
• In line with this, the Modpack Generator now allows modpack creators to define a SMAPI version target to be displayed on installation.
• This feature re introduces a removed feature that was missed when we created the next generation modpack file, noted here: #69

Changes and Bug Fixes

• #99 - The function buttons in the Modpack Generator application now become disabled when an operation is in progress.
• #91 - If the user clicks and drags the enabled/disabled mods list outside the boundary of the window, the applicable action buttons would remain disabled, which has now been fixed.

This update adds some new features, including our brand new surprise theme implementation! Customise your Stardew Valley Mod Manager experience with the new facelifted user interface with different themes to choose from!

New Features

Introducing Themes!

• Customise your brand new, facelifted Mod Manager UI with different themes.
• These themes can be toggled in the Settings.
• Three themes to choose from including the default rosy pink, a nice forest green and ocean inspired blue.
• And best of all is we've built the theme implementation around the idea that themes should be added and expanded upon. Look forward to seeing more themes in the future, but we didn't want to overload you with choice to begin with!

Changes and Bug Fixes

• #95 Performance Improvements - The splash screen should now load all at once, rather than flashing different UI elements into existence.
• Other Performance Improvements - The dashboard should similarly now load quicker and with less UI flashing due to smart decisions made during the design process and programming process for the new UI!
• #63 - We've made some conscious efforts to address Windows Defender and it's deleting of the update files when you attempt to update the mod manager. We're trying to work through this issue with Microsoft, so please do be patient with us.

Overview

This update fixes a series of issues and implements some better practices. This update also now comes with error logging. The application will now print error logs when certain tasks are unable to complete or when errors occur. This will help us understand better the issues you're having to help us solve bugs quicker.

New Features

• #89 - The application will now create error logs when encountering a crash or issue. These can be accessed via the Settings menu or Feedback menu.

Changes and Bug Fixes

• #59 - Adjusted the in-app feedback user interface to feel cleaner and be more responsive. The feedback interface now also gives you access to bug and feature requests and access to the new error logs folder.
• #88 - Modpack Installer will now hopefully be more reliable on some PCs where previously the modpack would encounter permission issues.
• #90 - When mass uninstalling mods a single confirmation dialog will appear with the list of all mods being uninstalled instead of individual confirmation prompts for each mod.
• #87 - Cancelling an update will no longer leave the application running without a user interface.
• #86 - There is now a credits/special thanks window that can be accessed by double clicking the settings icon in the settings tab.
• #85 - The update window's update URL now properly reflects the download location.
• #63 - Some false positives from anti-virus programs have been resolved. Kaspersky and it's reaction to Stardew Valley Mod Manager is still somewhat volatile. If you use Kaspersky, we recommend disabling it before updating as your update process may not fully complete.

Overview

This update lets you decide whether you want the SMAPI update check to happen automatically on start up, fixes some consistency issues with the user interface and also fixes a bug with the SMAPI update downloader, where in certain circumstances it would throw a critical error.

New Features

• #78 - Added a setting so users can disable the SMAPI update check from happening autonomously on startup.
  By default the SMAPI update check will not be enabled. It can be triggered manually at any time by clicking on the SMAPI version number or turned on from settings to happen automatically on startup.

Changes and Bug Fixes

• #79 - The first run experience contains a single window with a different background colour to the rest of the experience.
• #80 - The settings tab has UI elements aligned too far to the left / with more right margin spacing.
• #76 - The SMAPI update will throw an unhandled exception if the release was published on Nexus but not GitHub.

About This Release

This is the first update for July, 2022 for the Stardew Valley Mod Manager. This update was originally going to be v220602 and released in June, however some further bugs were discovered and we needed to take some extra time with this one. We hope you like it! This update comes with a few new features as well as some bug fixes. The list of changes can be found below:

New Features:

• #59 - Better implementation of the in-app feedback is present in this version. The feedback survey is still available alongside a bug report option. Feedback will appear in it's own tab on the Main Dashboard.
• Application will now check if SMAPI is up to date and prompt you to download the latest SMAPI update.
• Application can now download the newest SMAPI version automatically, downloading files and launching the installer for you.

About This Release

This is the second update for May, 2022 for the Stardew Valley Mod Manager. This update expands on the brand new user interface we added in version 220501 as well as introducing the next generation of Stardew Valley Modpack files.

New Features:

• Introduces the next generation of SDVMP (Stardew Valley Modpack) file infrastructure.
• SDVMP files are now file associated, they will be given an icon and when you double click on them from anywhere in Windows it will auto-launch into the Stardew Valley Modpack Installer.
• The Stardew Valley Modpack Generator applet has been updated to make the process of creating a modpack even easier.

Next Generation SDVMP Implementation
The next generation SDVMP implementation makes it easier and more reliable to install a modpack. There are some benefits and drawbacks to the new implementation.

Benefits:

1. Modpacks are installed more reliably with pre-warnings about drive space requirements
2. Modpacks no longer download files from online, removing issues where internet disconnections broke the process.
3. Modpacks can now be updated - simply overwriting existing mods with the version in the modpack.

Drawbacks:

1. The file size of an SDVMP file can now be several hundred megabytes or larger if the modpack includes a large mod. Previously, all SDVMP files were less than 1mb in file size, even if the modpack included hundreds of megabytes in mods - they were just downloaded rather than being pre-bundled.

Bug Fixes and Improvements

• The application is now over 50% smaller in file size.
• The user interface has been tweaked slightly, reducing white space and optimising the new user interface design from 220501.
• #46 - The splash screen is no longer infinitely resizeable.
• #47 - The program now appears in the taskbar if the user moves to a different display during the splash screen showing.
• #49 - The program now automatically resets to the presets directory when the user clicks "Load Preset"
