poison meter not consistent

For example in c3m4, when you're in the room w/ the zyklon c leak, there's no poison meter shown when you have the gasmask on except when you're right under a major leak.
The meter is shown when you take the gasmask off.
As the room is filled w/ gas, you should atleast get something on the meter.
