[Application] : EQUINOCT Application for Hazard Response Mission Pack #12
Comments
Hello, Thank you for sharing your impressive proposal! After careful consideration, we've decided to proceed further. However, the Mission Pack may not suit your needs. Therefore, we've updated the collaboration terms. Please provide detailed information on the parameters you need to monitor, such as soil moisture or temperature. We'll provide an appropriate product package based on your requirements. We have also added a few additional requirements and you may choose whether to agree to the following terms and conditions. Guarantee feeDue to customs and postage issues, we have to add a guarantee fee and shipping cost.
Welcome your reply, we look forward to collaborating with you on this project. Feel free to ping me by replying here or on Linkedin. |
Dear Davide, Wonderful to hear from you. As per your instructions, we are providing a list of parameters that we need measured as part of the issues we are trying to address.
Some of the regions we are working in have limited connectivity and power options, which may require the use of low power wide range technologies such as LoRaWAN or alternative wide range transmission techniques. Hope that this gives you an idea about the kind of parameters and the sensor equipment and supporting network devices that may be required. Hope to hear from you soon. We would like to add that we are also interested in air quality stats. A waste management plant in Brahmapuram, Kochi, Kerala, India caught fire in March last year. We conducted a hazard impact analysis, which is live here. The data for this was collected by social data gathering (via google form) due to the lack of adequate sensor equipment. Thank You |

Which disaster risk or issue are you addressing?
We are working in Kerala, located in southern India. We have been actively monitoring river and tidal flooding. We monitor multiple weather and water related parameters such as rainfall, river water levels, ground water levels, reservoir levels and temperature to monitor and forecast floods at a river basin scale with an active community engagement. We also monitor tidal water levels and the extent of tidal flooding in the coastal stretches of Ernakulam district to co-create community resilience to tidal flooding. We engage students and researchers as part of our data gathering network.
We are also hosting this data on a web platform throught which we seek to provide streamlined insights regarding the current situation to multiple stakeholders including governmental agencies. The platform can be accessed via this link.
With the help of these monitoring systems, we are able to provide actionable information about the severity of possible events to disaster management authorities and local governments. An article highlighting our work - link.
We have been utilising manual gauges operated by our data gathering community members until now. We are planning to automate our monitoring systems for improving the efficiency and data resolution.
