Never in all their history have men been able truly to conceive of the world as one: a single sphere, a globe, having the qualities of a globe, a round earth in which all the directions eventually meet, in which there is no center because every point, or none, is center — an equal earth which all men occupy as equals. Howdy! I'm Diego, a Technology Management senior and person who is responsible for way too many things this year. I at least try my best. I'm minoring in both cybersecurity and business, have some work experience in those fields, and am always looking to gain more experience or bragging rights wherever I can.

-

Science cuts two ways, of course; its products can be used for both good and evil. But there's no turning back from science. The early warnings about technological dangers also come from science.

You may ask: "What are some of the things you deeply regret being involved with due to all the newfound responsibilites?"

-

What was most significant about the lunar voyage was not that man set foot on the Moon but that they set eye on the earth.

+

I got a little too eager this year with the following involvements:

-

A Chinese tale tells of some men sent to harm a young girl who, upon seeing her beauty, become her protectors rather than her violators. That's how I felt seeing the Earth for the first time. I could not help but love and cherish her.

+

Clubs and Activities

-

For those who have seen the Earth from space, and for the hundreds and perhaps thousands more who will, the experience most certainly changes your perspective. The things that we share in our world are far more valuable than those which divide us.

This year, I am the president of the Texas A&M SCUBA club, and probably one of two officers that actually does anything along with my logistics coordinator. Despite being relatively new to scuba, being only certified since last October, I quickly scooped up more advanced certifications for the fun of it and to learn critical diving skills. Hearing repeatedly from the dive shop owner about how the club was poorly ran, along with only a single dive taking place in the spring semester, I decided to run which ended up being unopposed. Now I do my absolute best to revitalize, streamline, and improve the club however I can to make it more appealing to all students.

-

The Final Frontier

+

In addition, I'm also the social media and recruitment officer for the Aggie Barbeque Club. That one was more accidental, since I just take good pictures and thought it would be fun to take it more seriously. I'm technically also one of the pitmasters, since all the officers are responsible for cooking, so that's usually fun if not tasty.

I also have a job which I've had to neglect for a bit due to being overly busy. I am a security analyst for the university, working in the basement of the Teague building to hunt and evaluate threats on A&M's systems. Usually there's not much, but on occassion we find interesting stuff. I'm hoping I can go into cyber forensics in the future, likely working for the federal government, which I am very greatful that this job gives me the opportunity to learn in such a niche field thanks to my boss's position. I learned quickly that other IT fields like endpoint weren't for me after my internship this summer with General Dynamics, which I hoenstly hated.

Hello! I'm Harley, a writing and speaking tutor at Texas A&M’s University Writing Center and a student writing coordinator at Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Before becoming a technical communication professional, I am pursuing a Bachelor of Journalism with minors in Mathematics and Technology Management.

Today's blog is about how I came to be where I am careerwise.

-

Science cuts two ways, of course; its products can be used for both good and evil. But there's no turning back from science. The early warnings about technological dangers also come from science.

+

How I Chose My Career Path

-

What was most significant about the lunar voyage was not that man set foot on the Moon but that they set eye on the earth.

+

I am always looking for ways to grow and improve my knowledge. However, I felt like I hadn’t learned enough, having new information presented to me but never grasping why I need to know it. I like knowing a little bit about every subject, but in college you need a major (or two if you really feel like it).

-

A Chinese tale tells of some men sent to harm a young girl who, upon seeing her beauty, become her protectors rather than her violators. That's how I felt seeing the Earth for the first time. I could not help but love and cherish her.

+

So I was torn. I love writing, collecting journals because “I may have use for them eventually” and making lists for every little thing (like a list of tasks I want to complete in a day). I also love editing, catching those ever-so-small mistakes in newspapers or ads. I was a copy editor in high school and competed in journalism competitions, so journalism was close to my heart. Let’s not forget reading too. For as long as I can remember, I have loved books, buying all that I can to have my own personal library. When it came time to get a first job, my parents said I couldn’t get one at a bookstore… we all knew I’d spend my paycheck there.

-

For those who have seen the Earth from space, and for the hundreds and perhaps thousands more who will, the experience most certainly changes your perspective. The things that we share in our world are far more valuable than those which divide us.

+

Yet I also adored math. Every problem was a puzzle to me, just like sudoku. While I struggled with science topics, math was my reliable buddy. Some problems frustrate me to no end, but finally getting the answer is one of the best feelings. I grew up wanting to be an accountant but eventually landed on engineering. Still I never felt confident completely in pursuing engineering because I didn’t have very much experience like I did with writing and reading.

-

The Final Frontier

+

How could I choose between something in liberal arts and something in STEM? Then I learned about technical communication. I could write (or code but nevertheless write), and I could choose what field to write in.

-

There can be no thought of finishing for ‘aiming for the stars.’ Both figuratively and literally, it is a task to occupy the generations. And no matter how much progress one makes, there is always the thrill of just beginning.

+

My love for journalism, mathematics, and technology will make me a great technical communicator. From journalism, I have learned how to talk to strangers effortlessly, ask important questions, and write effectively on a deadline. From mathematics, I have learned to never give up on solving problems, whether by hand or through coding. From technology, I am learning the basic knowledge to understand the technology industry.

-

There can be no thought of finishing for ‘aiming for the stars.’ Both figuratively and literally, it is a task to occupy the generations. And no matter how much progress one makes, there is always the thrill of just beginning.

+

STEM industries need technical communicators and what better than a technical communicator who knows your industry.

Technology Management and What Excatlly It Is.

-

What was most significant about the lunar voyage was not that man set foot on the Moon but that they set eye on the earth.

+

Technolgoy Mamagment focuses on teaching students about computers. Specfically knowing how to work, program and manage them. This major invovles knowing how to read the computer language and understaning how to fix things that aren't working right.

-

A Chinese tale tells of some men sent to harm a young girl who, upon seeing her beauty, become her protectors rather than her violators. That's how I felt seeing the Earth for the first time. I could not help but love and cherish her.

Mangeing Techonology is so important especially becuase there is nothing in our world anymore that isn't a type of technology or being runned by it. Technology Management helps make sure that everyone is safe and thier data is safe as well. Understanding that computers our tools that use to collect data and make our lives easier. But they can also comprimse us in different way.

I chose Technology Management and my Minors because I knew I would alwyas have a career in this field. Like I said before there is nothing in this world, that is not being runned by technology. I also chose to do this because I love working with and on computers. I have always loved technology and I know it loves me back. I think learning new things about computers and how to make new things on them is so fascinating.

+

Also my Cybersecurity minor is so important to me because I want to go into that specfic field. Helping people be safe online while also protecting there data from people that shouldn't have that type of information on anyone. I want to make an impact in this world. I know that because I am good with computers and understaning them I know this is the place in the world I can help make a different. To protect people online and protect their data.

What is Technology Management?:

-

A Chinese tale tells of some men sent to harm a young girl who, upon seeing her beauty, become her protectors rather than her violators. That's how I felt seeing the Earth for the first time. I could not help but love and cherish her.

I am currently pursuing a degree in Technology Management which is in the College of Engineering at Texas A&M. The Technology Management degree helps students to advance integrated knowledge of human development, management, and technology competencies within a dynamic and rapidly evolving environment through innovative teaching, research, and service. This degree brings together engineering along with management by allowing us to understand how both technology and people function.

Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.

As I stand out here in the wonders of the unknown at Hadley, I sort of realize there’s a fundamental truth to our nature, Man must explore, and this is exploration at its greatest.

For this project, you will use the same groups from Project #1, with the change that we will no longer be split into Dev or Ops teams, but rather use the larger 6 person teams to execute the project. The goal of this project is to practice the workflow of social coding — learning to collaborate within a group on a common set of data. Each team will deliver a simple website that is hosted on Github.com using the Github Pages service. Github Pages is typically used to host an informational website about a technical project; in this case, there is no technical project behind the website, but you can just write a placeholder file (like a README file) to have something in the master branch, or you can create a group and make an organization page instead.

1. Create a new repository for your project using either the organization site or Project site model. You might want to consider creating a Github group to help you manage the people in your team and privileges around your repository.

+ +

2. Use GitHub Pages (and optionally the Jekyll static site generator) to create a website for your project: https://pages.github.com/

+ +

3. Start creating content. It doesn’t matter what you put here, but it should be somewhat substantive, and look mostly polished. There should be a minimum of one content unit per team member on the site, and some images (for example, if you are using Jekyll to generate a blog, one blog post would count as a content unit). You can create a site for our course; an informational site for your team; a pretend site for the (non-existent) technical project you created earlier; or even something completely unrelated to our class topic (like a site about a band or TV show, or collaboratively-written fiction). It’s really up to your group.

+ +

4. An important part of social coding is learning to resolve conflicts that arise when multiple people make conflicting changes to the same file; therefore, a requirement is that each content unit contain edits by at least two members of the team. I will be looking at the Github logs to see how these conflict situations are resolved. You should use the collaboration tools provided by Github to assist (such as Pull requests, and the Conversation mechanism that is provided). If these situations don’t naturally occur in your project, engineer them.

+ +

5. Any communication that doesn't happen inside GitHub.com should happen inside the class Slack team.

+ +

6. We will be looking at the sites as a class. I will be grading this project on two criteria: how much you individually contributed to the project (as evidenced by the Github records), and how broadly your team used the version control features of git and the collaboration features available in Github and Slack. At a minimum, I expect at least one pull request per content unit in your site.
