Hi all! I am Julia Damerow. I'm a lead scientific software engineer at Arizona State University, which is a big R1 (total enrollment: 145,655, over 20,000 employees). We don't have a formal RSE group although we're talking about it. We have an informal RSE gathering, which meets once a months that started about 2 years ago. That group also organizes monthly code and coffee sessions to which anyone is welcome and can get some help from an RSE. I joined the AG to get ideas about how to better find and reach RSEs and allies at ASU, how to increase momentum with our informal group, and generally to learn how other people connect and networks with RSE across their institution. |

Hello! I'm Lezlie España. I work as a programmer analyst at the Medical College of Wisconsin, an academic medical research institution of around 7,000 people. We don't have a formal RSE group, although I've tried to start an informal group through our staff mentorship program (this was...not successful, ha). I joined this group to get ideas and support for finding and networking with RSEs across research domains. |

Ahoy! I'm J.C. Subida, senior RSE in the Department of Preventive Medicine at Northwestern University. I work directly with 2 other RSEs but don't have a formal group. I joined the AG to gain a better understanding of how I can start, join, grow, network within, and contribute to an RSE group at NU, though not necessarily in that order if I've completely overlooked an existing group. 🙃 |

Hi! I'm Abbey Roelofs, lead programmer of an RSE group in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) at the University of Michigan. LSA is the biggest college in an R1 university, and as part of the of the IT organization for this college, our group of 6 programmers supports research in any of the 41 LSA departments that come to us for help. I know there are lots of RSEs out there at U-M beyond our little group, and someday I would like to organize a way for more of us to connect, support one another, and make the importance of this work more visible at our institution. I joined this group to get ideas and inspiration on how to do that in a sustainable way from a community of people doing the same. 🙂 |

Hello all. I'm Andrew Fullard, a research consultant at Michigan State University's HPC department. I work primarily on astrophysics software as an RSE. With Pat Bills, we have tried to start a research software developers' group at MSU with limited success. I'm here to share our experiences and work to improve what we are doing already! |
