🕖 Time when community can best engage in show #22
Comments
Definitely open to other times, or having less structured times. Considering that we've had less live listeners (potentially due to having less guests / guests with significant notoriety) and there has been concerns about X as a platform in the broader internet community, it may be a good time to consider other methods of hosting. Just brainstorming - I wonder if we could set up recurring live shows and invite people to call in, like public radio? I recently started listening to some shows of this type in my free time and it might be a pretty cool fit - could eventually have multiple scheduled sections for dedicated hosts, and have free time that anyone could sign up for. |
Now that we have a stable weekly community meeting time, I think we can focus on "getting everyone together" over there. Accordingly, I think we should specifically schedule on-demand based on interview guests' availability.1 This should make it easier to attract high-profile names who might need different slots. Namely, their communities might have different preferences if they want to join in too, so the times could directly accommodate new members as we slowly introduce them to DRS and the group. Public RadioIt's an exceptional idea on your part, and something I've been inspired to see implemented on your behalf over the last year. I've had fun being the "guest of last resort" when others aren't available for a chat, and it'd be awesome to have more questions from the community. I tried to start this up with the Issues in this repo, but haven't seen much discussion lately. This could be related to WhyDRS/Newsletter#5 (reply in thread) since we're just now opening things up for everyone to chat, apparently. All for more public input and dedicated hosts where all can chat! Footnotes

With you on focusing on the weekly growth. I think we're already seeing positive dividends moving from biweekly to weekly for the Wednesday evening discussions. One tricky part is going to be maintaining an itinerary while also having open discussion - but, to some degree, that can be mitigated by having the meetings more often (check) and having other spaces like this for discussion and action (double check) There's definitely room to improve. I'm not sure what the best solutions are and we'll keep trying a variety! I think in this growth period we'll be best serviced to remain flexible and welcoming to other communities. Just for note, a public radio network could be an invitation to other existing communities as well which could invite collaborative growth. I would like to look into what it would take to self-host something like this. I'm thinking specifically @JFWooten4 of the consistent and excellent conversations with Ankit over at Decentralizing Capitalism as one example of another series with similar values and overlap. |
Agreed on the frequency change; we just did that with @xximcap, too. They are exploring solutions with a YouTube livestream but ran into challenges with tooling whereby the stream delays by 20 seconds and makes it impossible for chatter. As we become more mainstream, I agree with the show as a place for collaborative growth. Given the nomenclature of the current name, we can "Take Stock" of recent developments as we start making news in the headlines, so to speak. Also an exceptional place to shout out awesome work like the pending ringing_bells video with peruvian_bull.1 💜 the idea of inviting existing communities & past work where a "representative" potentially joins their community show, as David Webb has largely pursued. Trying out 5pm Eastern for now. |
Recently, we've had fewer live listeners and more people saying they just missed an episode. When is a good time for you to host Taking Stock? @tehchives has suggested 5 PM ET, which I think aligns well with the end of a normal workday. I'm happy to mark that time or consider any other time that works better for everyone! 💜
In the past, we used a permissionless time voting calendar website—would anyone find that useful or be able to configure it if so?
