Add section for SDKMAN on installation page #667
Comments
Hi Marco. I agree that having information about JDK managers, such as the excellent SDKMAN, would be appropriate on the installation guide. The current page is a bit out of control! I think it is daunting to end users who come to that page and "just want to install Temurin", since there are options to choose and lots of detail on there. One approach would be for you to create a new section in the current page and pile on, and I wouldn't blame you for that. My preferred approach would be split up the information and have a simpler landing page for installation that explains working with archive files, installers, or managers and then links off to specific pages for each. But in short, yes, please do raise a PR. |
Hi Marco, thanks for creating an issue. I completely agree with @tellison that the current installer page is far too complicated. I would actually prefer to recommend package managers by default and then perhaps dive into a more technical page further on. |
Hi guys, thanks for getting back to me on this. I totally hear where you're coming from and think what you suggest makes perfect sense. I'm happy to hold off with submitting that PR until you've finalised the layout of your new download pages. Please give me a shout when it's done and I'd be happy to jump in at that point. |
We've got https://adoptium.net/installation with section "Installers" to msi, pkg and linux pakcages, ready to have a new one for sdkman? |
Hi all,
First off, thanks for your tremendous effort so far. We all appreciate the hard work you are putting in.
I noticed that your installation page makes no mention of SDKMAN right now, and was wondering if I could raise a PR to add it, as well as get some guidance around what could be added to that page.
You might already know that Temurin 17 is the new default JDK installation on SDKMAN, so installing is a doddle 😄
Thanks and keep up the great work!
