I'd like to ask for a new type of skippable 'section' called 'Spoilers'. There's not much I can say about this request, because I feel like there's not much that I can say that isn't already said with just the title. Maybe also add an option to write the name of what would be spoiled during that moment, like "The Last of Us", "Ending of Lost" or "Game of Thrones T4E6".

In that case, would it be acceptable to mark the whole video as a spoiler? E.g. maybe some user does not like phone leaks and someone links them to this video.

🤦 no

@securingmom How should that be handled then, given that the user does not know what they are about to watch before they do?

@Madis0 hic sunt dracones

Such a tactic could snowball into the self evidently foolish Democratizing of Truth where the intellectually dim seek to avoid reality while erroneously deeming this safety.

I personally always watch the whole video before adding segments, to ensure I'm not missing something when adding them. And I think other people will also do this. Most spoilers are also obvious (for example scenes that are shown before the intro).

Your example makes absolutely no sense and can even be used against you, because you'd also have to mark your whole video as "Unpaid/Self Promotion" - but you didn't. Should that mean that we have to remove this category too? I don't think so, and that's why there should also be a Spoiler category.

@ajayyy, please add the Spoiler category.

I think this would be useful in cases where the video states "skip to this timestamp to avoid spoilers." That makes it obvious as to what timestamps should be used for the segment and makes it slightly more convenient for the user.

An extremely useful case would be this video because there's no specific timestamp to skip to, so you have to scrub forward and use the small preview to figure out where the spoiler ends (Spoilers from 8:10 to 11:00). But, the video makes it easy to distinguish what's a spoiler by having the words "SPOILERS" in large font on the bottom of the screen, meaning that the timestamps for the segment will be unambiguous once you've found it.

In cases where it's less clear, you'll probably need to have some guidelines like the other categories and you'll have to rely on voting.

This would come especially useful in video reviews of videogames or books or movies where the creator warns about a spoiler segment so that you don't get spoiled on the story or gameplay when you're looking into whether you should buy a certain title.

Of course if the whole video itself contains spoilers there is no point in tagging anything, and tagging the whole video is just dumb, so this tag would only apply to videos where the creator puts a spoiler segment and warns the viewer about it, like in this example.

I just watched a video where all of a sudden, out of the blue, the youtuber shows the final boss of Elden Ring.
I wish this category existed !!!

Any updates on this? I feel like it could definitely have its uses

Addendum: since we have full-video labels, i.e. exclusive access or sponsored, we can add one for spoilers - for example, impactful scenes from popular shows (i.e. certain impressive end for one of major Breaking Bad characters, and behind-the-scenes on how it was made), reviews/videoessays containing major spoilers throughout, etc.

Theoretically we could also add optionally blurring thumbnails for videos tagged as spoilers, which can be controlled in the settings.
