As a platform maintainer
I want to upgrade our serverless Aurora instances to v2
so that we can avoid issues when AWS stops supporting v1 in March 2025

Functional Requirements (What):

  • upgrade all Aurora v1 instances in our AWS accounts

Acceptance Criteria:

  • we no longer have any v1 Aurora instances in our AWS accounts

Notes:

Upgrade instructions from AWS: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonRDS/latest/AuroraUserGuide/aurora-serverless-v2.upgrade.html#aurora-serverless-v2.upgrade-from-serverless-v1-procedure

As far as I can see, only Grafana uses Aurora serverless instances.

We plan to automatically convert all Aurora Serverless v1 clusters to Serverless v2 starting March 31st, 2025.

So at least we know what Amazon will do if we sit by and do nothing. But we should probably still upgrade them ourselves!

Will create a new aurora v2 instance and then transfer the data from the v1 database

Following a slack chat with Sam have pivoted to following the AWS upgrade in place to v2 and then reconciling the differences. Trying this out in integration first.
