Right now, you have to put .projections.json at the root of a directory to activate the extension. It'd be nice to be able to tuck it into .vscode, since that's already gitignored in most projects

Another idea would be to have a setting to specify the .projections.json location, so you can put a global one at ~/.projections.json for instance
