the map overlays are still a bit of a mess, but I made my best attempt at tweaking the css to make the it responsive on mobile with this commit 1b66a20

what it really needs is a bit of an overhaul to add all the map overlays to a flexbox system but I don't have the bandwidth to do that before the oct 9 launch.
