tfsec using caf

We are seeking some advice on how to run tfsec on local machine using VS Code extension and command line and ultimately from github actions

We use the Cloud Adoption Framework templates to deploy which makes use of tfvars files to define the resources and i note that the format in these files differs from
the examples that you show in the https://aquasecurity.github.io/tfsec/v1.15.2/checks/azure/ for example they lack the the preceding 'resources' keyword

When we run tfsec it doesn't appear to pick up and scan the content of these tfvars files. we have tried supplying the --tfvars-files with path to files but with no success

Has anyone come across this issue we are experiencing running tfsec with Cloud Adoption Framework terraform and able to provide some guidance examples please ?
