I'm a bit confused about this repo and how it relates to the MKRWAN repository. Is this an alternatively line of development for newer firwmare versions? Or is it intended for different hardware? Is the user-facing API different, or just the internals?

Maybe this could be clarified in the README as well?

I'd also like an update on the current status. I guess it relates to this discussion arduino-libraries/MKRWAN#64

Hi @matthijskooijman and @AMB2800.

This is the status:

  • All existing MKR WAN 1300/1310 boards can work either with the https://github.com/arduino-libraries/MKRWAN or the https://github.com/arduino-libraries/MKRWAN_v2 library, if the corresponding firmware is loaded on the board.
  • All boards manufactured so far have been pre-flashed with the firmware that is compatible with MKRWAN
  • The firmware for MKRWAN is a bit buggy (it has issues with certain frequencies) and its maintenance is hard because it's a fork. The firmware for MKRWAN_v2 is just the upstream firmware from ST so it's the preferred solution in the long term. However the MKRWAN_v2 library lacks some features that were contributed toMKRWAN so we can't just deprecate that one until it has full feature-parity.
  • It would be very very nice to get some help from community on feature parity of MKRWAN_v2 so that we can deprecate MKRWAN. We are also open to welcome volunteer maintainers so that we don't become a bottleneck.

Any feedback is very welcome. :)
