Is this gem still being maintained at all. I would like to see this feature added and would do the work. I think this would be useful for getting around permissions issues in running passenger-status. I do not want to use sudo nor give the nagios/nrpe user permissions to run that command. However, if I were to run the command via cron every X minutes, using the cache file, and I could change the ttl on the cache file, then the nrpe checks, in theory would never need to do more than load the cache file.

If interested, I think this would be a simple change as the TTL seems to only be used in one file.
