Issue with getting Adaptive Lighting to "trigger"

I have an Inovelli Blue switch grouped in Z2M with 4 Hue bulbs. Two things don't seem to be working correctly:

1. The brightness and color changes occur after turning the switch on

2. Sometimes the change doesn't trigger at all - when I turn the switch on, the previous color and brightness appear. I have created a switch on HA (using the AL switch entity) for this that works...when I click that switch off and back on, the changes occur.

I am using the defaults when configuring AL and only add my Z2M group to it. Any thoughts?
