Slow FPS on EmulationStation while on v39 and v40 on iMac A1311 2011 (or other weaker systems)

Issue description

I'm on an iMac A1331 with 12GB of RAM, and EmulationStation interface is sluggish on the platform select screen when any fullscreen background is being used: Video Games or any "Random" option (FanArt, Video, Image, etc).

Display resolution is at 1920x1080 and everything runs fine on Batocera v38, but it gets sluggish when running v39 or v40. The only thing that solves the issue on v39 and v40 is using a background that is not fullscreen or changing the display resolution to 1280x720.
