As a student I want to be asked all relevant dependent vs independent questions up front, before providing additional information that may impact my status.

Acceptance Criteria

  • Changes for the 25/26 program year
  • Changes apply to FT only
  • Remove the highlighted response options from the parent residency question located on the Parent Information tab

image.png

  • To the personal information page of the FT application, add a new category titled "Parent information"

  • This category will be located after the Employment Information category

  • Only populate this category if the student is considered dependent

  • Add the following question to this category:

My parents are deceased and I do not have a legal guardian

  • Add Yes/No response options

  • If no, no action needed and student proceeds as dependent

  • If yes, student should be considered independent regardless of how they answer other application questions

  • Add the following question to this category:

I am estranged from both of my parents

  • Add Yes/No response options
  • If no, no action needed and student proceeds as dependent
  • If yes, trigger an exception path

Additional context

  • Re: the estranged from parent question. Currently this is a response option on the parent residency question and a "yes" response triggers an exception. I want this to be a standalone question and have the exception path already in place to be moved used when this becomes a standalone question.
