Any way to romanize japanese titles?

I have a bunch of japanese songs in my music collection and it's hard to read or search them if they're titled in Kanji. I would prefer to have them in Romaji instead. Is there a way to achieve this using beets?

In this case, I would just like to save the title as Hyakka Ryouran, which is the romaji for the title.

Make sure to check on musicbrainz that the "alias" you want:

1. is on musicbrainz
2. is set as the 'primary alias' for the language (e.g. English) ex. https://musicbrainz.org/artist/9a197894-1a40-4650-89a2-928dcfcd1ef6/aliases

It's technically possible to algorithmically map Japanese to a latin script, but won't work perfectly. https://japanese.stackexchange.com/questions/56640/is-it-possible-to-algorithmically-convert-japanese-text-to-romaji

Thanks. What locale do I put. It's technically Japanese written in Latin script.

And I did add an alias for the release but beets still does not pick it up for me. I do have the en language specified.

I use aliases for artist names. I can't remember if I've used it for pseudo releases. try to find out what release you are matching to. set timid and try to select the pseudo release?

$albumartist_credit might work. It can be useful for US/UK releases of works with non-latin names, since the MusicBrainz style guide says "credited as" should match the cover. (e.g., if the composer on the album cover is listed as Tchaikovsky, that's how it should be credited, not as Пётр Ильич Чайковский.)

If you've got an album where it's Japanese or Russian on the cover, $albumartist_credit will probably not help. Not sure it will help with metadata and track titles as much, however.

I have never gotten the aliases to work either, so if anyone knows how to make that work, I'd love to hear it.
