No recording found, but thumb nail has the recording. What am I missing/

Pictures might tell the story better.

That is my videos page view. The first picture on the top left shows an orange car. When I hover mouse over it, it shows the car pulling in.

When I click on the video to view the full clip I get to see this for a second

and after a second or two I get a static image

I have that camera with detect only, no record. Is that the problem? But where is it getting the clip that shows on the thumbnail then?

So I had read frigate docs in the past, but it seemed it was in chinese cause I couldn't make much sense of what I was reading. I think I am starting to piece things together now. I just modified my record config section.

This is what I had:

I had no parameters for record (motion based), so it was only recording detected objects

my new record config looks like this;

If I am understanding correctly, only the two cameras that have roles of detect and record are the ones that will record all motion for 7 days, while the other 2 cameras that have role detect only, will keep only recording when an object is detected. Am I right?

And finally started playing with masks and zones. One of the cameras that has role record has a mask on a tree. I assume when the tree moves it will ignore it and not record at all, but if something else moves it will record right?

I am guessing the thumb nail showing the movement is sortha like a glitch. It pulled recording info to create the thumbnail but didn't actually create the recording since that camera didn't have a role to record. Am I right on this assumption as well?

Recording retention settings will be a lot clearer in the next version, but for now it looks like you've got a better handle on it.

Check out this tip on motion masks that should help you understand them a little better: #13040

And the thumbnail (called a "preview" in Frigate 0.14) will always be generated for tracked objects, regardless of your recording setting. In the next version of Frigate, this is also changed as well so that no previews will be generated if recording is disabled.

Thank you. It seems you are part of the frigate team. Not sure if this is the proper channel, but I think one thing that was taken away from the previous version was the ability to see the length of the video clip we are watching. Pretty sure the previous version showed how long the clip was (ie 22 seconds) and as we started to view the clip a bar would show how far along we were on the clip.

And would like to assume on next version/update the error log when trying to save a config with errors won't take over the whole screen as it currently does!

For what it is worth you guys are amazing! Can't think of any other integration I've used for free that is so responsive at answering questions.

Unline Frigate 0.13, version 0.14's review items combine multiple tracked objects into a single segment of video footage. There is no real "clip" with this new format as there was in the previous version. However, in the next version, it will be possible to see video footage of individual tracked objects, and those videos will have the traditional progress bar and timestamp.
