Can the output of buf format be considered stable?

We're in a bit of a tricky situation where we might have slight misalignment in the version of buf some team members are using (we use Nix to handle that, but there are corner cases with regards to compatibility with other tooling). I wanted to understand if we can rely on the output of buf format to be stable across versions or if it's rather advisable we find a different solution. Thank you so much in advance!
