BLUF:
Step 1 — Govt uses Dropbox for local data files
Step 2 — This micro-app just gives a super simple web view of all those files (and an iFrame for govt to embed on THEIR site)

Dropbox API: https://www.dropbox.com/developers

Points:

  • Stupid, simple, easy. WTF why not.
  • Maybe enforce unique, stable URLs in some way

Why not just use the Dropbox webview that you get for free?

In other words – just use Dropbox. Also, I believe Dropbox files have stable URLs.

Totally possible, but I think something that easily gives:

  • embed for web site
  • stable, readable URLs
would add a lot of value.

This would be a big help for smaller governments that might have limited resources, and might not know how to get started. Simple, easy, effective.

Also, might provide an easy pathway to visualizations and an API for data via something like CartoDB's synched tables.
