I thought this had been fixed in 358b141 (#3465), but apparently not; it seems it only made it less likely. If a map is eventful enough, the game is eventually overwhelmed, resulting in events (such as payday, or a spell or room being researched) giving the wrong message, or no message at all. Also, the objective may disappear.
The log is flooded with event_update_last_use: Illegal Event kind 0 to be updated errors.
