clarify license

Hi,

I'd like to package this for debian (mostly as a dependency for building other tools), but in order to be able to do that, we need to know under which license this code is released. Problem is, none of the files seem to have a license header and there isn't a LICENSE file.

If would be really nice if we could get that cleared up! :)
