Questions about droppyjs

Hello,

In the past i have used "droppy" and recently i came across this new version. I am thinking to install your version but i wanted to gather some information before I do so.

Is droppyjs based on the old droppy? https://github.com/silverwind/droppy
If so what are the new updates?
Is it free to use?

Hi there!

Yes it is. It is compatible and you can move to it by uninstalling the old version and installing the new one. (Check README)

Mostly bugs addressed and modernising code, I am currently working on user permissions (e.g. read-only mode).

It is free and open source as before :)

Thank you for your reply. Following your answer, I decided to install droppyjs and try it out. I am trying to install it using docker, however i am having an issue with the following error:
[ERROR] TypeError [ERR_INVALID_ARG_TYPE]: The "path" argument must be of type string. Received undefined

For testing purposes, I am trying to install it on a Ubuntu 24.04 that is running as a VM.

Docker command i am using: docker run --name droppyjs -p 8990:8990 -v /home/user-vm/droppyjs/config:/config -v /home/user-vm/droppyjs/files:/files --restart=always ghcr.io/droppyjs/droppy

The following is the full log after the command:

UPDATE

I am able to install it but using the docker image with the tag: canary. Using the tag: latest was defaulting to a version that was not working for me.

I am using this command: docker run -d --name droppyjs -p 8990:8990 -v /home/user-vm/droppyjs/config:/config -v /home/user-vm/droppyjs/files:/files --restart=always ghcr.io/droppyjs/droppy:canary

This time is in detached mode and using tag canary
Note: as i am changing port mapping from the default 8989 to '8990', it is needed to update the port declaration in config.json to 8990. After the update, stop and restart the container for the change to take effect. As i am running it on local host for now, it is being served at: 127.0.0.1:8990.

All good for now.

Suggestion for other users: Maybe README should be updated to reflect this specific docker image, and instructions for port re-mapping.

There has been an issue with the Dockerfile that is published I believe. I’ll be adjusting it this weekend!
