As an end user - how do I install the CDT 12.0.0 preview?

@marcelr the bleeding edge of CDT 12.0.0 is available now - see instructions. However, I recommend as a user to wait for our first published pre-release which is expected on 10th of January 2025 and will be downloadable as part of Eclipse IDE for C/C++ Developers 2025-03 M1. I expect the link will be https://www.eclipse.org/downloads/packages/release/2025-03/m1 - but that will be 404 error until that date.

CDT 12.0.0 in mid-February 2025

This will be 17 Feb - the same date as CDT's 2025-03 M3 contribution.

I updated https://github.com/eclipse-cdt/cdt/milestones with the dates as discussed at the recent CDT monthly call #958.

Our current dates for CDT 12 are:

• M2 in line with SimRel 2025-03 M2 - this week
• 12.0.0 Release in line with SimRel 2025-03 M3 - the week of Feb 17.
• 12.1.0 Release in line with SimRel 2025-03 RC2 - the week of March 3

There is still a lot of activity in CDT that would be eased by working on a major version. Therefore I propose that we align fully with SimRel 2025-03 release schedule, which would be this:

• M2 in line with SimRel 2025-03 M2 - this week
• M3 in line with SimRel 2025-03 M3 - the week of Feb 17 - no significant/breaking changes after this date
• RC1 in line with SimRel 2025-03 RC1 - the week of Feb 24 - no API changes after this date
• RC2 in line with SimRel 2025-03 RC2 - the week of Mar 3
• 12.0.0 Release on Mar 12 - the release is simply promoting RC2, there should be no new changes since RC2 apart from critical issue respins.

See SimRel/2025-03.md for more details about SimRel dates. Note that the contributions are due to SimRel on the Monday of the above weeks, but respins of the contribution can be done up until EOD Wednesday of that week.

We must keep to the 2025-03 release schedule to ensure CDT 12 is release on time. Other activities, including support marketing/promotion activities are being done by EF to align with the new CDT in 2025-03. See Amplification of CDT 12 release with with SimRel 2025-03.
