Reading up on the SH2 FMV upscaling process as detailed in the description of the relevant YouTube video, it seems that the upscaling work was made on the assumption that the aspect ratio of the FMVs is 64:41, because apparently that is how they look on emulator.
However, the PS2 renders games at a variety of nonstandard resolutions and ARs. Often the internal resolution is not the same as the output resolution, which in turn is not the same as the resolution of the video files. Emulators don't seem to account for all that and simply stretch the image to fill a 4:3 window. Add to this the fact that NTSC video has non-square pixels and CRTs are not fixed-panel displays, and it becomes apparent that there are simply too many variables to make an accurate assessment.
The opening video looks right on official DVDs like Lost Memories: The Art & Music of Silent Hill; the SH2 logo in the video matches the official logo exactly, circular objects like Maria's pendant appear perfectly round, and various shots match their counterparts in promotional renders. By comparison, all these look distorted in the Enhanced Edition's cutscenes. DVD has standardized video with a set AR that always looks the same, removing any variables. Specifically, non-anamorphic DVD contains 720x480 video and is meant to be displayed at 640x480 (4:3 AR).
So the PS2 intro's dimensions should probably be adjusted to match the DVD footage, and then the same settings could be applied to the rest of the cutscenes. I have calculated the AR and dimensions and I could post them if there's interest.

Thanks for the detailed breakdown for this--I appreciate it! At this time I won't be revisiting the FMVs. The adjustments and re-rendering of them was always quite the process for the previous times I revised them. If at some point in the future I do revisit them, I'll make it a point to also look over their AR's.
Good! For future reference, to match the PS2 FMVs to the DVD footage, stretch them from their original resolution of 512x384 to 568x384. At 1080p, this works out to 1598x1080, but 1600x1080 is preferred because it aligns better with the upscaled DVD footage, and because 1600 and 1080 are divisible by 8. As a side note, the framerate of the video should technically be double that of the original, so 59.940060 (60*1000/1001) and not 59.94.
