Token authentication has been deprecated in Devise (https://github.com/plataformatec/devise/wiki/How-To:-Simple-Token-Authentication-Example). Take a look at https://github.com/gonzalo-bulnes/simple_token_authentication gem or the uses of the gem, in rails-api: https://github.com/thoulike/rails-api-authentication-token-example or Regular rails: http://provoost.tumblr.com/post/80873086965/json-api-authentication-using-devise-tokens.
