I just installed SoundSpice from Google Play. It asked me to grant permission. The permission menu showed up and I granted the access permission, but the app says "Oops, no music found".

I close the app and open again. Same

I check the settings, permissions, yes, storage is granted. I go back. Still "oops..."

I open GitHub to file an issue. In the meantime, I notice that the music shows up in the app.

So I'm not sure what happened, but it seems there is some kind of issue.

I notice "exclude whatsapp audio" under settings, which makes me think that the app look for music on the whole device, not just under Music.

Maybe it took a few minutes to look in each folder.

If this is the case, would it make sense to look under Music first, add those songs, and later look for more music in other locations.

I'm not sure what is going on here. The app doesn't really scan the whole device. Instead, it accesses an internal database of audio files kept by the Android OS. Then, it filters out all the files that fall under the "excluded folders".

The "no music found" message is only supposed to show if the database is empty.

Can you please share your device's make & model, OS version?

It's a Google Pixel 3a with Android 10 (security patch 5 May 2020).

Should I re-install the app to see if I can reproduce it?

That would be great

Hmm, of course it's working now.

I uninstalled and installed again. Gave permission and the music was there immediately. (Took a while to get cover art)

I went to Apps and deleted cache and storage. Again, music showed up immediately.

But one thing is weird: I remember the first time I opened the app, the app said something like "you'll have to grant permission" and THEN the Android permission prompt showed up. But now only the Android permission prompt shows up.

So I wonder if something is different the first time you install (although I'm not sure what since I did clear cache/storage).
