There should be something somewhere that lets the user know what version the software is. In an R package this would be in the DESCRIPTION file, with a Shiny app I've also seen this put somewhere in the UI and the README file.

Agree with what Kyle says. Please post a version number in the README.

Done. Thank you for all your valuable suggestions. I am happy to leave in GitHub these open source code as part of the results of my PhD and this is because of JOSS existence.
